IUU drift net fishing is possibly the most destructive method of fishing known to man.
Petition to BAN driftnets World-Wide
Despite the 1992 United Nations moratorium on high seas driftnets, Illegal, Unreported and Unregulated driftnets are still widely used today.
Even though United States Congress passed a law to "secure a ban" on high seas driftnets, industry and governments have allowed drift nets to persist, devastating much of our ocean life.

Are you aware that IUU drift nets are the biggest threat to sperm whales in the Mediterranean and quite possibly in the North Pacific? Not to mention dolphins, turtles, sharks, sea birds, tuna, salmon & squid?
Driftnet fishing is a non-sustainable method of fishing. It is not selective, nor easily managed. This Illegal method of fishing, in most places around the world, has driven other sustainable fisheries into extinction. Not to mention Bluefin Tuna, swordfish, dolphins, whales and other ocean resources, and ocean life.
High Seas drift net fishing must be stopped!
