Captain John Harder reported to the board of directors of OceanFAD, on the final observed voyage aboard sustainable Tuna Troller "Ocean Joy".

09/29 Vessel departed Westport, WA heading for fishing grounds. 2 men on board. One captain, one unexperienced crew.

0 fishing effort.

09/30 Vessel engaged in fishing at 46.00n x 127w. Noticeable decline in daily catches amongst the fleet indicating fish stocks in the area had migrated on.

79 Albacore Tuna kept on board, 0 Tuna noticed having drift net marks.

10/01 Vessel heading South to 45.30n x 127.40w

19 Albacore Tuna taken, 0 detected drift net scratches.

10/02 Vessel moved Southeast to 43.30n x 126.30w.

42 Albacore Tuna caught, 0 Tuna observed with drift net marks.

10/03 Vessel moved South to 42.30n x 126.20w.

50 Albacore Tuna kept, 3 Tuna bearing distinct drift net marks. Average weight 16 lbs per tuna.

74 Albacore Tuna taken, 2 Tuna noted with drift net scratches.

66 Albacore Tuna landed, 0 Tuna noticed with drift net marks.

10/14 Vessel leaving the area as catch rate too low for production.

23 Albacore Tuna kept, 0 Tuna observed having drift net marks.

10/15-16 Vessel heading Southeast to Moss Landing, CA.

10/17 Vessel entered Monterey Bay to unload 11,000 lbs of sustainable Albacore Tuna in Moss Landing, CA.

  

This was the first Certified (MSC) sustainable Tuna delivery made in the Monterey Bay.

Submitted fish report to OceanFAD and NMFS.
